Yué Wu x BYBORRE

Yué Wu x BYBORRE;  A celebration of borderless and cultureless friendship as well as an important step for BYBORRE to push graphical representation on a fabric innovation level.

Borre Akkersdijk of BYBORRE and artist and illustrator Yué Wu have known each other for years and have played an important part in eachothers lives and careers. These scarves are both a celebration of borderless and cultureless friendship as well as an important step for BYBORRE to push graphical representation on a fabric innovation level.

The graphic that makes up the entire blanket of seven scarves shows highlights from Yué’s friendship with Borre. Important connections made and projects that they worked on together all come together is Yué’s signature style.

BYBORRE brought this unique illustration into their lab, translating it from an illustration to a knit file. To add a layer of depth BYBORRE’s team went into each layer of the digital graphic to ensure the piece had the depth and dimension that Yué intended when being produced on an industrial circular knit machine. Needless to say everyone was all extremely pleased with the results.

This was the first time BYBORRE has opened up their Lab to develop a material featuring an artist’s artwork outside of their own design in-house teams designs. This opens up the possibilities of their materials as a platform for bringing artwork to life in textiles.

The outcome was a series of blankets, one given to Yué, one hung in our archives and one was auctioned at One Grand Gallery in Portland for the Run Trill™ auction where all proceeds benefit cancer research.

On top of the blankets we made a small run of scarves, the majority of which were given to the attendees of a friends and family event during Paris Fashion Week. But we did set aside a small amount in an exclusive colourway which will now be available on our website for this Direct Drop.

The scarves are available right now. Please click here or click on any picture to redirect to the Yué Wu x BYBORRE scarves.
